DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Two organizations in the Wiregrass will receive a combined $537,501 to help victims of assault and sexual assault.

The House of Ruth will receive $365,114 to help victims in Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Barbour, Covington, Coffee, Covington, Bullock, and Pike counties. The House of Ruth offers emotional support, safety services, shelter, and housing for domestic violence victims.

The Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center will receive $172,387. This Dothan-based organization provides services and shelter to children involved in abuse cases in Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties.

"Violence against any individual is an abhorrent act, and offenders should be arrested and punished. Victims, meanwhile, deserve to have access to services that support them through these terrible ordeals and helps heal the physical and mental scars they suffer," Gov. Ivey said. "I am awarding these funds with confidence that these agencies will provide the essential assistance that these victims require."

The funds given to the House of Ruth and Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center were part of a $2.3 million grant given to organizations around the state.

The funds for the grants were supplied to the state through the U.S. Department of Justice.

Other organizations that received funding include The Alabama Court Appointed Special Advocates ($1.43 million), the Russell County Child Advocacy Center ($54,087), the Montgomery Area Family Violence Program ($217,476), and One Place of the Shoals ($96,000).
