The Arizona Department of Public Safety identified three people who were killed in a collision involving a commercial truck and an SUV near the New Mexico state line.

DPS said the crash occurred on Saturday at 5:10 p.m. in San Simon where a commercial truck traveling east on Interstate 10 had its front left tire blow out, causing it to cross the median into westbound traffic when it crashed into the SUV. The crash also ignited a fire in the tractor-trailer.

Raul Garcia, a department spokesperson, identified the three people killed as the following:

  • A 17-year-old boy from El Paso, Texas.

  • The truck driver was airlifted to a hospital as were two others inside the SUV. Ruiz said one remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Thursday but did not specify who.
