Drake Maye injury update: Patriots not concerned about knee issue

The New England Patriots had 16 players listed on their injury report Wednesday. The most notable among them was quarterback Drake Maye.

The rookie, who made his first career start against the Houston Texans on Sunday, was labeled a full participant. However, per the team, he is laboring a knee injury.

The severity of the ailment is not known, but it does not appear to be a major problem looking ahead toward the upcoming Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars . According to a report by Phil Perry of NBC Sports, the Patriots "are not concerned about this knee injury" and that Maye is "expected to play" on Sunday.

The Boston Globe's Ben Volin had previously noted that Maye underwent an MRI following practice.

Maye, 22, started the regular season as backup quarterback behind veteran Jacoby Brissett but was elevated to the starting spot last week. He subsequently played all 66 offensive snaps in a 41-21 loss to the Texans, completing 20 of 33 pass attempts for 243 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Maye also ended up getting sacked four times, including a third-quarter strip sack that seemingly left him with some pain in his left non-throwing shoulder. He was back on the field for the next series without any obvious limitations, though, and that particular issue was not mentioned on the practice report Wednesday.

The Patriots will fly to London after Thursday's practice. Their game against the Jaguars at Wembley Stadium is scheduled to kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 20.
