A person is in custody after allegedly trying to "take control of" an Alabama State Trooper cruiser during a wreck investigation in east Birmingham.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a state trooper spotted a two-vehicle crash blocking the road in the 1700 block of Tallapoosa Street.

Senior Trooper Vu Quang said while the trooper was investigating the crash, one of the drivers involved in the wreck to "take control of the patrol vehicle."

Quang said the trooper was able to stop the suspect, who was taken into custody and then taken to UAB Hospital for evaluation. The trooper was also taken to UAB Hospital for evaluation.

Authorities declined to comment on the nature of the possible injuries and said no additional information is being released.

Witnesses reported seeing the trooper and a male in an altercation in the roadway and said a stun-gun was used on the suspect. Authorities have not confirmed those accounts.

Birmingham police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service also responded and assisted with the incident.

Criminal charges are pending against the suspect as the investigation continues.
