Driver charged after motorcyclist dies in Spartanburg crash

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A motorcyclist died after crashing into a car on Monday morning.

According to the Spartanburg Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bomar Avenue and South Church Street.

Police said a sedan driver was trying to turn left on Bomar Avenue from South Church Street, while a motorcyclist was traveling north on South Church Street toward Bomar Avenue.

The sedan driver turned left in front of the motorcyclist, who then hit the car at the center of the intersection.

Officials said the motorcyclist was separated from the bike and died at the scene.

Police charged the sedan driver with failure to yield right of way.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office identified the motorcyclist as Billy Keith Stevens, 53, of Roebuck. A forensic exam is scheduled for Tuesday.
