Driver killed after vehicle overturns down embankment

ALPINE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A driver was killed in a crash Wednesday in the Alpine area, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 11:57 p.m. on Interstate 8, located east of Pine Valley Road, Officer Jasmine Lopez with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Thursday.

The 22-year-old driver, from San Diego, was traveling in a 2003 Infiniti G35 eastbound on I-8 when the vehicle drove into the dirt center divider and overturned down a rock/vegetation embankment, according to authorities.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the crash and if driving under the influence was a factor.
