Driver loses control, killed in head-on SR-78 crash

RAMONA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 63-year-old driver died on Wednesday when his car crashed into another vehicle in Ramona, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. on State Route 78 near Salmon Road, Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI.

A Ramona resident driving a Chevrolet S-10 was traveling westbound in the aforementioned location when for unknown reasons he lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into an Isuzu box truck traveling eastbound, according to CHP.

The Chevrolet driver died due to his injuries at the scene, while the box truck driver, a 46-year-old of El Cajon, did not get hurt. Both drivers were the only people inside their vehicles.

Authorities do not believe driving under the influence was a factor in the crash.
