DSNAP benefits in Augusta–Thursday is the last day

S.Martinez3 hr ago
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – After Hurricane Helene, many people were left with questions of what to do next. Organizations from across the state are helping to provide food assistance.

Thursday is the last for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or D-SNAP in Augusta.

People say the process is pretty simple. You'll want to bring some form of identification, and the program agents will help you with the rest.

"I wasn't even in line five minutes, and mine is on my card already. Just truly a blessing," David Calhoun said.

The assistance is a one-time payment to low-to-moderate income households impacted by the hurricane.

"Actually saw people that really needed help really badly, they came, as the storm subsided and people actually help each other get back started to where they– where so much was messed up...," Ronald Jones said.

You're expected to meet the financial eligibility requirements, have suffered disaster-related loss to property or income and more.

"It was pretty easy, you just come in and you tell them where you're going to register– or if you're already registered– and they help you fill it out if you need help filling it out. And then they put you in line. So, it was kind of quick, simple, everyone was nice and pleasant...," Quiondra Booker said.

Those who have already come out say they're grateful.

"I took five minutes– it really didn't even take five minutes, a couple seconds, and I called my card and that 50 was on my card. That 750– I'm just saying that 750, I needed that 50. So, the ones that aint got 750, come on and get that 750...," Calhoun sad.

In order to receive benefits, you must not already earn regular SNAP program benefits. You can visit here for times and locations.
