Set in Paris, it revolves around three friends—Serge, Marc and Yvan—who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when Serge buys an expensive painting. The canvas is white, with several fine white lines. Marc is horrified, and their relationship suffers considerable strain because of their differing opinions about what constitutes "art". Yvan, caught in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify both with little success.

Dundalk Theatre Workshop's production is directed by Fergus Mullen and features Sean Whelan Tom Muckian and Tony Markey and promises to be a highly entertaining evening

The play has won numerous awards including Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, New York Drama Critics' Circle – Best Play, Tony Award for Best Play and Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy

It has featured many well known actors in the cast in successful runs in both the West End and Broadway.

Art opened in London's West End in October 1996 at Wyndham's Theatre, starring Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay and Ken Stot in the initial run.

It was equally successful when it opened at New York City's Royale Theatre, Boardway in February 1998 with cast featuring Alan Alda, Victor Garber and Alfred Molina.

Art won the Tony for Best Play and ran for 600 performances. Among the actors who took over in the production were Brian Cox, Henry Goodman, David Haig, Buck Henry, Judd Hirsch, John DeLancie, Joe Morton, Wayne Knight, George Segal and George Wendt.

Art follows from Dundalk Theatre Workshop's productions of The Faith Healer and The Price.
