DWU men split in Missouri on Thanksgiving trip

COLUMBIA, Mo. — A giant effort from the team's starters did the job for the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon with an 81-71 win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.)

Samuel Aslesen had 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting, plus four 3-pointers for the Tigers' winning effort, which ensured a split in two games over Thanksgiving holiday in Missouri. A neutral-site game, it was DWU's first win away from Mitchell this season.

Randy Rosenquist Jr. had 18 points, with 15 points and 10 rebounds from Blaze Lubbers and 12 points for Kallan Herman, plus nine points and six rebounds from Jakob Dobney, totaling 75 points from the starting five.

DWU also had a huge effort at the free-throw line, finishing 22-for-24 — all taken by starters — including 18-for-19 in the second half, while finishing 9-for-29 overall on 3-pointers and shooting nearly 45% overall on field goals.

The Trojans (2-5) were powered by a massive effort from Janssen Flotow, who had a 12-for-15 shooting game for 39 points, including five 3-pointers.

On Friday night, a hot-shooting effort for both sides in the first half continued for Columbia College of Missouri in a 89-77 win over DWU.

DWU made 18 3-pointers on 35 attempts, which accounted for 54 of the Tigers' 77 points. Twelve of those 3-pointers came in the first half, with DWU shooting 60% from the field in the first 20 minutes. In all, DWU was 27-for-55 on field goal attempts and cooled down to 49.1% overall.

In Friday's game, Blaze Lubbers led all Tigers in scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds on 6-for-10 shooting and four 3-pointers in 38 minutes. Kallan Herman posted 17, also hitting four 3s. Randy Rosenquist Jr. had 11 points and Samuel Aslesen had 10 points for the Tigers, along with seven points and five assists.

Columbia made 11-of-28 3-pointers and was 50% shooting overall. Harrison Vickers had a game-high 21 points with five 3-pointers, while Collin Parker had 20 points. The Cougars finished with a 42-10 edge on points in the paint.

DWU (5-4) will host Jamestown as it resumes GPAC play at the Corn Palace on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
