Eagles defeat Chiefs 21-17 in Week 11

In a Super Bowl LVII rematch for “Monday Night Football,” the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles went toe-to-toe during a rainy, cold night on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Eagles emerged with a victory over the Chiefs, extending their record to 9-1 — and dropping Kansas City to 7-3.

Both teams collected sacks that forced three-and-outs on their opponents’ opening possessions — but on Kansas City’s second drive, a 24-yard run by Isiah Pacheco (followed by another 14-yarder by Kadarius Toney) put the Chiefs across midfield, which led to a three-yard touchdown pass to Justin Watson and a 7-0 lead. The Eagles responded with a 9-play, 75-yard drive of their own that ended with a 4-yard touchdown run by D’Andre Swift to even the score.

The Eagles forced another three-and-out and started driving down the field. But on a second-and-9 just past midfield, L’Jarius Sneed intercepted Jalen Hurts’ pass to A.J. Brown. Kansas City drove into the red zone — but then Patrick Mahomes’ pass to Watson was intercepted by Philadelphia’s Kevin Byard in the end zone. The Eagles couldn’t capitalize, either; their next drive ended after four plays — two of them sacks by Chris Jones.

A 21-yard punt return by Toney started Kansas City at the Philadelphia 45-yard line with 3:49 left in the half. the Chiefs drive scored with a 4-yard pass to Travis Kelce to make the score 14-7 with 1:45 remaining — and then got the ball back with 1:01 left, taking a 17-7 lead with a 43-yard Harrison Butker field goal as the half ended.

Each defense forced a pair of punts to open the third quarter. Then the Eagles built a 7-play, 61-yard drive that was built on a 35-yard scamper by Swift and topped with a 10-yard Hurts touchdown run to make the score 17-14 with 4:05 left in the third quarter. Kansas City drove down to the red zone — with substantial help from penalties on Philadelphia — before Kelce fumbled the ball away at the Eagles’ 10-yard line with 13:21 left in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs’ defense, however, was not to be denied — forcing a three-and-out. Kansas City drove back across midfield, but Watson couldn’t bring in a third-and-4 pass, forcing another punt. This time, the Eagles moved right down the field on a 20-yard Swift run and a 41-yard pass to DeVonta Smith that set up a goal-line tush push that gave Philadelphia a 21-17 lead with 6:20 left.

The Eagles forced a three-and-out and used up 2:39 on a five-play drive before punting Kansas City back to their own 9-yard line with 2:49 (and one timeout) left. The Chiefs’ hopes ended with another pass that Watson couldn't bring in — this one on a fourth-and-22 play. That sealed the Eagles’ 21-17 victory.
