Eagles injury report: Is Jalen Hurts dealing with an ankle injury?

L.Thompson29 min ago
PHILADELPHIA — The big news Friday ahead of Eagles' practice was this: quarterback Jalen Hurts is dealing with an ankle issue.

"Yeah, you know, it was on the injury report," Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said when asked why Hurts was limited during practice Wednesday. "He's dealing with the ankle and we're just making sure we're precautious with everything."

The only problem with that answer is that the injury report issued Wednesday said Hurts was limited in a walk-through practice because he was resting.

Bob Lange, the Eagles' vice president of communications, intervened after Sirianni's ankle comment and said Hurts was resting.

"It was rest, sorry," Sirianni said. "I thought you were talking about somebody else."

The obvious follow up: Is Hurts dealing with an ankle problem?

"Rest," Sirianni said.

To be clear, Hurts was back Thursday as a full practice participant and he was on the field again Friday during the short period that was open to the media.

All indications are he'll be ready to play when the Eagles face the Dallas Cowboys Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, even though he is dealing with an ankle issue that was not deemed serious enough by the team to place him on the injury report.

Nevertheless, it was an odd media exchange between the media and Sirianni, especially since the player of concern was Hurts, who was very secretive about a knee issue that bothered him for much of last season.

Hurts was also asked about being off following practice Wednesday.

"Just didn't go today," the quarterback said at the start of his weekly news conference. "Rest. I just do what I'm told."

It was an odd week on the injury front for the Eagles.

On Sunday, edge rusher Bryce Huff played just six defensive snaps against Jacksonville despite not being on the injury report ahead of the game. He played two snaps in the first 58 minutes and the final four snaps when the Eagles were attempting to hold on to a five-point lead deep in their own territory.

Sirianni said after the game that Huff was dealing with wrist soreness and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio followed that up by telling a similar story Tuesday.

Huff admitted that he hurt his wrist during pregame warmups Sunday, but said he "was ready to go in the whole time."

And he did go in at the most crucial time of the game.

Despite the confusion about injuries to Hurts and Huff, the Eagles are going into their game against the Cowboys with a mostly healthy roster. Every player on the 53-man roster participated in Thursday's practice in some capacity. The full injury report will be out later today.

Will Hurts be on it? Stay tuned.
