Eagles News: Fred Warner wishes the 49ers didn’t talk trash after their NFC Championship Game loss

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

The 49ers talked trash after losing to the Eagles in the championship game. Fred Warner wishes they hadn’t. - Inquirer
With the trash talk between the Eagles and 49ers ramping up ahead of Sunday’s NFC championship game rematch, some of San Francisco’s players are taking the opposite approach. “People are going to jump to what happened last year, in the NFC championship game,” linebacker Fred Warner said on his podcast, The Warner House. “I’m kind of over that whole thing. I know some of our players, throughout the offseason, were saying stuff about it. I honestly wish we hadn’t. You can sit there and make the excuse about the whole Brock [Purdy] situation, blah blah blah. At the end of the day, they beat us. They earned that.” Over the offseason, several Niners players, most notably wide receiver Deebo Samuel, called out the Eagles and stated that they believed they would have won the game if not for injury issues that, most notably, left them with an injured fourth-string Josh Johnson at quarterback.

It could be a rainy afternoon in Philadelphia on Sunday - Niners Nation
There’s a 50 percent chance of rain Sunday in Philadelphia, as of writing. Shanahan would prefer that it doesn’t rain while the team practices this week, so the 49ers can continue to practice outdoors. Here’s Kyle on Brock Purdy’s preparation might change with precipitation in the forecast: “No, a wet ball makes it harder on everybody. I’ve had some guys who really struggle in the rain. I’ve been through some situations with Brock, not just the game but practice. But I think he’s as good as any quarterback I’ve had in the rain. He’s dealt with it a lot at Iowa State . I don’t think there’s much practicing in rain. It doesn’t get less slippery. So, we’ll just try to have an efficient one today and deal with it Sunday.” Shanahan added that he doesn’t make his quarterbacks practice with a wet ball since the ball is generally sweaty from the players.

Week 13 NFL Picks Against the Spread - The Ringer
There’s a lot of juice for this one after the Eagles beat San Francisco in the NFC championship game last season. Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury on San Francisco’s first possession of that game, and the 49ers have since made it clear that they feel like they should have been playing in the Super Bowl . Some fun questions and matchups in this one. First, how will the Eagles match up to the 49ers when San Francisco is in 21-personnel (two running backs, one tight end, two wide receivers) and 22-personnel (two running backs, two tight ends, one wide receiver) packages? Linebacker is the weakest link on the Eagles roster. If they have to play in their base defense, Kyle Shanahan will find ways to successfully attack the middle of the field. Second, when the Eagles have the ball, can the 49ers stop the run? San Francisco has an excellent pass rush but is just 20th in DVOA against the run. D’Andre Swift has played well for the Eagles, and Jalen Hurts’s legs were a factor last week against Buffalo. This game will end either with Kyle Shanahan popping champagne for winning his regular-season Super Bowl or with Nick Sirianni flipping the double bird to visiting 49ers fans after an Eagles victory. I’ll take the home dogs. The pick: Eagles (+2.5)

Fantasy Football WR Report: Man, zone coverage performance ahead of NFL Week 13 - PFF
The 49ers’ man coverage defense has been almost the exact opposite, as they’ve allowed a league-worst 15.1 yards per reception and a first down or a touchdown on 43.8% of man coverage snaps (11th worst). A.J. Brown has dominated both man and zone coverages, ranking fifth in fantasy points per route run against man (0.84) and 15th against zone (0.46). DeVonta Smith hasn’t seen a very encouraging target rate versus man coverage, causing him to drop outside the top 50 wide receivers (minimum of 30 routes run) in fantasy points per route run (0.35). Smith should still see plenty of zone coverage, though, against the 49ers where his target rate (20%) and fantasy points per route run rank (tied for 28th) are more encouraging.

How Reed Blankenship survived playing more snaps than any NFL player in 11 years - NBCSP
They don’t have double-headers in football. Don’t tell Reed Blankenship. He just about played one Sunday. Blankenship played nearly the equivalent of two entire NFL games Sunday, compiling the highest snap count by an NFL player in 11 years in the Eagles’ overtime win over the Bills at the Linc. The average NFL team plays about 63 snaps per game on each side of the ball. Blankenship played 115. Which is insane. “It’s a lot of snaps, but if my name is called upon, whatever it is, however many snaps, I’m up for it,” Blankenship said Wednesday. “I know they trust me as a player and as a person. It doesn’t matter what I’m asked to do. I love the game so much, I’m up for anything.” According to the Stathead database, Blankenship’s 115 total snaps are the most by any NFL player on either side of the football in 11 years.

Week 12 DVOA: Records of the Ravens Run Game - FTN Fantasy
I’m not going to write in depth about the Philadelphia Eagles this week, because I already wrote about them last week. (Same thing with the Pittsburgh Steelers , also covered in depth in last week’s commentary.) I will note that while some EPA-based analysis around the Internet felt came out with a result that the Eagles won on Sunday despite being outplayed by the Bills, DVOA did not have this result. The Eagles had a single-game DVOA of 28% compared to 0% for the Bills. In our Post-Game Win Expectancy formula (explained here), the Eagles come out with an 86% chance to win given the statistical splits of this game. Two of the big reasons why: that last overtime drive and all those Bills penalties throughout the game. The Bills were dominating that game for the first two-and-a-half quarters, but the Eagles really came back in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Eagles’ Jason Kelce believes Bills’ Jordan Phillips should be fined for offsides hit on Cam Jurgens - CBS Sports
One player who had a pretty interesting day was Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. Phillips was involved in a couple of scuffles, including one play where he jumped offsides on a “Tush Push” setup. On that “play,” Phillips ran through Eagles offensive lineman Cam Jurgens, taking him down to the ground. Eagles center Jason Kelce called Phillips’ decision “bullshit,” and said that he needs to be fined. “I thought it was bullshit at the time,” Kelce told 94WIP, via Audacy.com. “He purposely tried to hurt Cam Jurgens. I thought it should have been a personal foul and I think he should be fined for that play.”

Washington Commanders Tank Tracker 2023 – Week 13 - Hogs Haven
In order to rise any higher in the draft order, the Commanders will need help from the teams ahead of them. The primary target should be the Bears, who notched a fourth win by upsetting the Vikings on Monday night. If they win another game, the Commanders can overtake them and claim the fourth overall pick simply by losing out. The Bears have a very good chance to get a fifth win when they play the Cardinals (2-10) in Week 16. Their next weakest opponents are the Falcons (5-6) and Packers (5-6). Moving any higher than fourth in the draft order will be very challenging. If the Commanders can avoid any further wins, the Cardinals (2-10) and Patriots (2-9) would each need to win two more games to fall behind them in the draft order, as they both have higher strength of schedule. Chicago’s first pick, via Carolina (1-10) is effectively out of reach, since Carolina has a weaker strength of schedule and would need to win four of their remaining six games to fall behind Washington.

NFL playoff and elimination scenarios for Week 13 - SB Nation
Arizona Cardinals . Maybe go grab a bite to eat, or some water, and settle in. Because we might be here a while. There are a number of ways the Arizona Cardinals, who travel east to play the Pittsburgh Steelers, can be eliminated from the playoffs. The cleanest path to elimination? A loss to the Steelers, coupled with a Seahawks win or tie against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, and a Packers win or tie against Kansas City.
