Eagles vs. Saints Odds, Predictions, Best Bets: Can New Orleans Stay Hot?

C.Brown21 min ago

Oddsmakers view Sunday's Eagles-Saints game in New Orleans as one of the most evenly-matched contests of Week 3.

The Saints, who have been as dominant as any team in the league through the first two weeks of the season, are favored by less than a field goal at most sportsbooks despite blowing out Carolina and Dallas in Weeks 1 and 2.

Philadelphia is 1-1 after squandering a late lead at home against Atlanta on Monday Night Football in Week 2. Through two weeks, the Eagles, whose collapse late last season after a 10-1 start resulted in changes at both offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, are once again a tough team to figure out.

Eagles vs. Saints kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

Below are the odds for Sunday afternoon's game in three markets: the spread, moneyline and total.

Eagles vs. Saints Betting Preview

Philadelphia Eagles Betting News, Analysis

So far this year, the Eagles have shown flashes of what made them one of the best teams in the league in 2022 and (most of) 2023, but they've also been unable to avoid costly mistakes.

Against Green Bay in Week 1, Philly won 34-29 despite losing the turnover battle 3-to-1, as Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.

Former Giants RB Saquon Barkley has been everything Philadelphia was hoping for when it signed him, but he dropped a critical pass late in the eventual loss to Atlanta last Monday night.

Barkley has otherwise been a force as both a rusher and a receiver. In just two games, he's already carried the ball 46 times for over 200 yards and 2 TDs, while adding six receptions for 44 yards.

Overall, this offense has mostly been effective under new OC Kellen Moore, even without star WR A.J. Brown in Week 2. The potential of the Philadelphia offense is immense with Brown healthy, but he'll be out at least one more week due to a hamstring injury.

The problem for Philadelphia through two games has been its run defense, which was unable to stop either Green Bay's Josh Jacobs (16 carries for 84 yards against Philadelphia) or Atlanta's Bijan Robinson (14 carries for 97 yards). That's bad news going into this weekend's matchup against the Saints, who ran the ball all over both Carolina and Dallas.

Another potential issue for the Philly defense is the lack of an effective pash rush. Kirk Cousins had plenty of time to throw throughout Atlanta's comeback win last Monday, especially on the game-winning drive in the final two minutes.

If the Eagles don't improve up front on defense in a hurry, they're going to need to win high-scoring shootouts nearly every week to return to the playoffs.

New Orleans Saints Betting News, Analysis

The Saints' blowout Week 1 win was unwisely written off by most of us due to the quality of the opponent. Yes, Carolina looks even worse than it was a year ago, when it went 2-15. Still, it's hard to beat anyone in the NFL 47-10, and New Orleans should have gotten more credit for how dominant it was in Week 1.

The Saints emphatically answered any questions about how they would handle tougher competition last Sunday with a 44-19 rout of the Cowboys. New Orleans was underrated defensively a year ago, and their success on that side of the ball this year has not been a shock.

What the Saints have been able to do on offense, however, has come out of nowhere. The New Orleans O-line was widely viewed as one of the worst in the league entering this season, but it has been dominant. Through two weeks of action, has any position group in the entire league exceeded expectations as dramatically as the Saints' OL?

With Alvin Kamara and the running game rolling, veteran QB Derek Carr has been lights-out, with 443 yards passing, 5 TDs and 1 interception on just 39 attempts.

If a team with championship expectations entering 2024 has started the season playing at this level, we'd be talking about it as a Super Bowl contender. Instead, most pundits are still wondering whether the Saints are for real, and if so, why no one saw this coming.

New Orleans was 4-to-1 or longer to win the lowly NFC South in 2024 preseason futures odds, well behind both Atlanta and Tampa Bay.

Eagles vs. Saints Prediction, Best Bets

At some point, Carr and the Saints have to come back to Earth, right? That appears to be the expectation among oddsmakers, who are giving Philadelphia a real chance to beat New Orleans on the road this weekend.

In fact, the line for this game gives so little credit to what we've seen from the Saints so far (including in Week 2 against a solid Cowboys squad) that we recommend staying away from this spread.

The safest bet in this game is another big afternoon by the Saints offense, which has more than earned the benefit of the doubt and is also facing a vulnerable Eagles front seven.

In addition to the Saints going over their team total, we like New Orleans to get off to a strong start at home. The Saints were up 17-0 after the first quarter and 30-3 at halftime against Carolina, and they led Dallas 14-3 after the first quarter and 35-16 at the half, so the Saints on the first quarter or first half spread both make plenty of sense.

Eagles vs. Saints Best Bets

  • Saints Team Total Over 27.5 (+130 at DraftKings)
  • Saints First Quarter -0.5 (+110 at DK)
  • Saints First Half -1.5 (-110 at DK)
