Eagles-Bills inactives: Lane Johnson is officially OUT

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the inactives list for their 2023 NFL Week 12 game against the Buffalo Bills .

The following Eagles players WILL NOT PLAY: Lane Johnson, Dallas Goedert, Milton Williams, Grant Calcaterra, Rashaad Penny, Josiah Scott, and Tanner McKee.

Johnson is out after being unexpectedly added to the injury report on Sunday morning due to groin soreness.

Johnson reportedly first felt pain on Friday but thought he was OK until he woke up sore on Sunday. Johnson underwent an MRI and was evaluated during pregame warmups by the likes of Howie Roseman, Jeff Stoutland, and Eagles training staff. Ultimately, it was determined he wouldn’t play. Perhaps the Eagles want to be extra cautious with this Bills game mattering much less than upcoming battles against the San Francisco 49ersand Dallas Cowboys . Still, not ideal to be missing Johnson in this one.

Jack Driscoll, who spent time in pregame warmups next to right guard Cam Jurgens, is poised to start in place of Johnson. Really bad news. Driscoll mightily struggled in the Eagles’ loss to the New York Jets . It’s disappointing they’re not giving Fred Johnson or Tyler Steen a shot at that spot.

Quez Watkins is notably ACTIVE for the first time since Week 5.

Watkins was limited in practice all week so he might see a limited role. It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles split WR3 snaps behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Goedert, Williams, and Calcaterra were ruled out on Friday’s injury report.

Goedert and Calcaterra missing means the Eagles are without two of their top three tight ends. The replacements: Jack Stoll, Albert Okwuegbuna, and Noah Togiai (making his season debut after being elevated from the practice squad).

Williams’ absence means Moro Ojomo is active for the first time since Week 6. He’ll be DT5 in the rotation behind Fletcher Cox, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Marlon Tuipulotu.

Penny is a healthy scratch as the fourth RB once again.

Scott is a healthy scratch with six CBs ahead of him.

Under the NFL’s emergency third quarterback rule, McKee is allowed to play if both Jalen Hurts AND Marcus Mariota leave the game due to injury.
