‘Early holiday present’: Big Spring airport opens new three-mile trail

BIG SPRING, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport and Industrial Park has opened a three-mile path, a mile and a half each way, along Rickabaugh Drive that is now available for residents to use.

"As our citizens begin to enjoy the cooler weather and we start into the holiday season, we wanted people to have another option in the city where they can get outdoors and exercise," said Mike Feeley A.A.E., Airport Director. "We want this to be an early holiday present to our community that they can utilize year-round."

The path was also designed with markings so it can be used for 5K races, in addition to normal use by residents.

"The flat topography makes this a great location for jogging, running and family bike rides." Feeley said. "There is very little vehicular traffic and no animal concerns like people may experience walking in a neighborhood."

The trail is located at 3200 Rickabaugh Drive. As you enter the airport, stay to the right and there is vehicle parking in the rest area just inside the airport entrance. The starting marker is located near the Sonic sign.

A deaf Black man with cerebral palsy who was violently arrested by two Phoenix police officers in August said he tried to alert the officers that he was deaf before they repeatedly punched and tasered him for an alleged crime he had been falsely accused of by another suspect. Records show that the incident occurred when officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a man causing problems and wouldn't leave a Circle K convenience store, according to ABC affiliate in Phoenix KNXV-TV. According to police records, the original description of the suspect was for a white man who had been creating a disturbance in the store, but that man later claimed he was assaulted by a Black man and pointed to Tyron McAlpin – a claim that was disputed by store employees and surveillance video, KNXV-TV reported.
