East Tennessee athletes nominated for Mr. Football Awards

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — High school football playoffs are upon us and many standout players from around East Tennessee are up for the 2024 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards.

The annual awards recognize the top players in nine classifications of high school football in the state as well as the top kicker regardless of classification.

Five semifinalists were announced for each classification on Thursday. The three finalists for each award will be unveiled by Tennessee Titans Head Coach Brian Callahan and Titans radio play-by-play broadcaster Mike Keith.

Coaches and media members nominate the finalists and the winners will be selected by a committee of statewide sports writers. Here are the semifinalists from East Tennessee.

Division I, Class 3A

  • Eli Graf, Alcoa

  • Eli Owens, Alcoa

  • Division I, Class 4A

  • Waylon LaRue , Anderson County

  • Carson Quillen, Greeneville

  • Division I, Class 5A

  • Cooper Newman, Sevier County

  • Division II, Class AA

  • Terrion Thomas, Knoxville Grace

  • Division II, Class AAA

  • Tyreek King, Knoxville Catholic

  • Kicker of the Year

  • Dylan Stooksbury, Powell

"They have helped make the recognition of these 50 student-athletes, their families, and schools possible. The sponsorship of the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards and numerous contributions to high schools across the state since the team moved to Tennessee have meant a great deal to the member schools of the TSSAA."
