Eastwood: Plans for extended D.H. Lawrence Festival unveiled

A festival celebrating the birth of controversial 20th century writer D.H. Lawrence is set to return with an extended programme this summer.

The D.H. Lawrence Festival will take place from 1 August to 14 September in his hometown of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

Born in September 1885, Lawrence is considered one of the most significant authors of 20th century literature.

The festival will feature a range of events including musical performances, guided walks and short talks.

The annual festival will get under way at the D.H Lawrence Birthplace Museum, on Victoria Street.

Carolyn Melbourne, museum and collections officer, said: "We're very excited to be extending this year's D.H Lawrence Festival over the summer holidays to give more opportunities for families to get involved in some of the events on offer.

"Cultural events like this are so important for the local area, bringing people into the town centres to support businesses and providing events for people to engage with and to meet others at.

"There really is something for everyone, whether you're familiar with Lawrence or not – be sure to look out for our five facts about Lawrence beer mats circulating in Eastwood too."
