Edgewood ISD parent approaches school board over student assault claims

S.Brown21 min ago

he mother of an Edgewood independent School District middle school student claims her daughter was assaulted by her physical education teacher.

She took those concerns Tuesday to the school board.

Carolann Reyes said an issue between her daughter and the Brentwood Middle School physical education teacher almost three weeks ago could've been a simple phone call home.

Instead, she said her daughter was assaulted and embarrassed, Now she wants action from the school district.

Reyes' 11-year-old daughter was in the middle school gym locker room wearing a plain t-shirt instead of her gym uniform.

She said the girls coach made rude comments to the girl before grabbing her wrist and pulling on her.

Reyes said her daughter then called her from the bathroom in tears.

"She's a good kid," Reyes said. "To be embarrassed like that, and as a parent to know that someone is judging her because she's wearing a t-shirt, is very hurtful because they don't know what's going on at home."

Carolann said she immediately went to the school for answers. But hasn't heard anything comforting from district officials.

"Their communication is at zero," she explained. "Every day calling back to back. Every day in their face wanting answers, there's nothing."

In a statement from EISD, officials said the claims made against the P.E coach are unfounded.

But Carolann isn't giving up. She's still asking for a meeting with the district superintendent and says her daughter hasn't been back to school since that day.

She adds she won't feel better until the coach faces unpaid suspension.

The full statement from Edgewood ISD is below.
