Wilkes-Barre Rec 11-12 Tournament
* Jimmy Smicherko struck out 13 to earn the complete-game victory in
Edwardsville/Larksville’s 12-1 win over Avoca/Dupont on Thursday. George Simms
went 4-for-4 and Josh Longfoot and Smicherko added two hits for the winners.
Nick Eck belted a bases-loaded triple to break open the game for
Edwardsville/Larksville. Jonathan Aston had two hits and Brand Matthews struck
out nine for Avoca/Dupont.
West Pittston 11-and-under Tournament
* Winning pitcher Mike Bish led Kingston to a 1-0 victory over
Swoyersville. Bish and Morgan Cohen were the hitting stars. For Swoyersville,
Matt Zielen and Mike Kilheeney had hits.
* Brandon Pacyna was the winning pitcher and Pat Brennan and Pat Calvey had
two hits each to power Abington Heights past Pittston City, 16-6.
Ian Tracy, Shawn Simons and Steve Stravinsky paced Pittston City’s offense.
Newport 9-10 Tournament
* Ryan Murphy had three hits and Jordan Dotzel, Tyler Sadvary and Dylan
Bassham all had two hits to lead Mountain Top 1 over Forty Fort, 14-8, in
Thursday’s action. Joseph Pechulis hit a home run for Forty Fort.
Savo’s 9-10 Tournament
* Ian Nelson doubled and knocked in two runs to lead Forty Fort to an 11-1
win over Wyoming-West Wyoming. Tom Alexander picked up the win by fanning six
in three innings. Alexander, Zack Holena and Dustin Mattern all had a pair of
hits for Forty Fort. Bobby Swietzer led Wyoming with two hits.
* Mike Carey was the winning pitcher as Exeter defeated Duryea 8-4 on
Thursday. Bart Chupko, Tyler Musik and Nick O’Brien all had hits for Exeter.
* Bucky Schwab only allowed one hit in three innings as Jenkins Township
knocked off Swoyersville, 10-0, on Thursday. Joe Zelonis and Nick Montagna
each doubled for the winners.
Wilkes-Barre Rec 9-10 Tournament
* Brian Stepniak had three hits, including a triple, to lead Back Mountain
National to an 18-9 win over North Wilkes-Barre. J.T. Carter stuck out eight
to pick up the win, while Josh McEntee, Jack Matusiak and Bill Hillman all had
two hits.
Josh Walker took the loss for North Wilkes-Barre and Alvero Avila, Justin
Francis and Cliff Francis each had two singles.
* Winning pitcher Mikey Leonard struck out seven to lead Kingston over
Mayflower, 9-6. Leonard, Chris McCue and Matt Labashosky all two hits for
Kingston and Nick Hogan hit a three-run triple.
Jonathan Zionce and C.J. Szafron led Mayflower with two hits apiece.
Januzzi’s 11-12 Tournament
* George Simms had three hits and Jimmy Smicherko, Matt Moran, Josh
Longfoot, Alexis Good, Tyler McGovern and Nick Eck all had two hits apiece to
lead Ed-Lark over West Pittston 11-5. Jonathan Gimble picked up the win and he
also started a triple play.
For West Pittston Kyle Rogers and Mark Bugelholl each had two hits
