Education Service Center Region 12 in Waco prepares for Red Ribbon Week

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Education Service Center Region 12 and the Department of Defense's Counterdrug Task Force partnered to hand out 80,000 red wristbands to area schools for National Red Ribbon Week.

Red Ribbon Week is a tradition celebrated in the region for over 30 years.

"We are thankful for this opportunity to support our schools," Jeni Janek, Counselor Specialist ESC Region 12 said. "The celebration of Red Ribbon Week encourages our students to make safe choices by educating them about the dangers of substance abuse and misuse."

ESC Region 12 is in their 12th year participating in the Red Ribbon Campaign. More than 940,000 red wristbands have been distributed in our area promoting awareness and healthy lifestyles.

ESC Region 12 is slated to giving out the millionth Red Ribbon Wristband in 2027.
