Edward G LANGAN

LANGAN Edward G., November 5, 1923 – September 15, 2024, After nearly 101 years of inspiring others with his tireless energy, unflagging positivity, tremendous kindness, and unending selflessness, Ed Langan got his wish to be reunited with his beloved Lil in heaven.

Born on a southwest Minnesota farm between Marshall and Minneota, Ed graduated from high school in Marshall in 1941 and soon joined the Army. Ed's time in Europe with the 777th AAA Battalion was made easier by the lifelong friends that he met there and the knowledge that Lillian Doskey was waiting for him in Chicago. Meeting her at a USO dance was, in Ed's words, "The best thing that ever happened to me." The couple married on June 8, 1946 in Chicago before moving to Marshall to begin 72 years of married life. And what a full life it was! Even when working 3 different jobs, Ed had the energy to volunteer at church, be a loving and present father to 8 children, and dance Lil around the living room to their favorite big band tunes. By the time he retired, Ed had been the Business Manager of the Ford dealership through 3 different owners and Trustee at Holy Redeemer Parish for 27 years.

Other than bowling league, Ed spent all of his "free time" making memories with his family. Summer was a time to fill the station wagon with children and sandwich supplies before setting out for Chicago, Lake Erie, or a tent camping adventure. When Ed became father-in-law, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, he extended that care and interest to his expanded family. The engine that provided him with this energy? The enduring love between Ed and Lil. His love and respect for his wife were exemplary and central to his being.

While family was his main focus, Ed was an enthusiastic joiner, part of a large social circle wherever he lived. From Marshall to Harlingen to Roseville to Highview Hills in Lakeville, Ed had a smile and a hello for all he met. Whether it was cards, dominos, Bingo, bowling, or golf, Ed was all in and he wanted you to be in too. Ed's positive inclusive attitude led at least one Highview Hills friend to say, "I want to be just like Ed when I grow up." Survivors, who also want to be like Ed when they grow up, include his children Sherry (Greg) O'Brien, Gregory (Carol), Peggy (Chuck) Rose, Patrick (Nancy), Michael (LouAnn), Terence (Loren), Mary (Mitch) Cox, John (Mary), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, parents Edward Glennon Langan Sr. and Margaret Blake Langan, sisters Lucille (Victor) Paradis, Katherine (Jerry) Franzen, Shirley (Robert) Rogge, brother-in-law Vincent (Lorraine) Doskey, and sister-in-law Irene (Philip) Stiff. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 AM Wednesday September 25, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church, 19795 Holyoke Ave., Lakeville with visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at Church. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor's choice.
