El Paso County seeks to shut down club for alleged violations one day after it opened

M.Nguyen24 min ago

The County Attorney of El Paso alleged the former Jaguars club, now Chicas Locas, violated a lawsuit settlement when it held its grand opening Thursday and is asking the state to close the club for one year.

The County Attorney of El Paso claims the operators of Chicas Locas, formerly known as Jaguars, violated several orders they had agreed upon on March 19, after a previous lawsuit, when it celebrated its grand opening Thursday evening.

According to the County's new lawsuit, the operators of Chicas Locas violated the agreement to:

  • Not operate a business with the name "Jaguars Gold Club" (or a variation of that name), as they still have the old "Jaguars CLUB #1 AFTER HOURS SPOT" signs.
  • Apply for a license to sell and serve alcohol, as they say they have not provided a copy of their application.
  • Hire an "appropriate number of off-duty licensed peace officers" to work for at least six months.
  • Have enough security cameras in and outside the building and provide proof that they work and of what they show.
  • Comply with the City of El Paso's fire code, as the building failed an inspection on Sept. 5.
  • Not use the word "strip" in any ads or marketing material, which the website for the Chicas Locas brand has, boasting it's the "#1 Rated Latin Strip Club."
  • The new lawsuit is looking to shut down any business operating in that location for one year and asks the court to forfeit the $5,000 bond.

    Below is the full lawsuit:

In a written statement, El Paso County Attorney Christina Sanchez wrote on Friday that her office is committed to ensuring that businesses in El Paso follow the rule of law:

The County Attorney's office believes it is important to ensure that businesses are operating in compliance with the law and with the safety of the community in mind. Our office is committed to ensuring that businesses operate lawfully and do not contribute to activities that could jeopardize public safety.

KFOX14/CBS4 has reached out to the attorney representing the operators of Chicas Locas, who will provide a rebuttal to these claims.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
