El Paso leaders to seek alternative funding after some proposals fail
El Paso County voters have approved more than $150 million in bond funding for capital improvement projects.
Three out of five bond propositions placed on the November ballot by county leaders will move forward, while two proposals were voted down by El Pasoans.
Propositions approved by voters:
County leaders, including Judge Ricardo Samaniego and Commissioner David Stout, praised voters for prioritizing these projects, which they said will have a lasting impact on the community.
"This reflects the priorities of our people," said Judge Samaniego.
Propositions rejected by voters:
While both proposals were close to approval, they did not meet the required thresholds to move forward.
County officials are committed to finding alternative funding sources for the rejected projects.
"We can't fund these larger projects through the regular maintenance and operations budget," Stout explained.
"As much as I would love the Coliseum to be modernized, it wasn't a priority based on what voters approved," Samaniego said.
With $150 million in new funding secured, the county will begin work on the approved projects as soon as possible. County officials said they are committed to delivering on these promises and will continue to seek new ways to fund future projects.
