Nov. 5—Democratic Rep. Robin Kelly won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing Illinois on Tuesday. Kelly, who has been in office for over a decade, has been a vocal supporter of gun reforms and community policing.

She first won the district in 2013 in a special election to replace then-U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who later pleaded guilty to misspending campaign funds.

The strongly Democratic Chicago-area district includes neighborhoods on the city's South Side, suburbs and other communities along the border Illinois shares with Indiana.

"Thank you to the voters of the 2nd District for sending me back to Washington, D.C., to represent them in the 119th Congress. I take great pride in serving my diverse district, which is urban, suburban and rural. Whether you live along the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, in the south suburbs, or in our rural counties, you deserve a quality job, a strong local economy, good schools for your children, access to healthcare, affordable housing and safety from gun violence," Kelly said in an official release. "I also want to give a special thank you to the scores of volunteers who knocked on doors, made phone calls, traveled to neighboring states and encouraged people to vote for me and Democrats up and down the ballot. Their efforts led to a strong turnout this election in the 2nd District and the Midwest."
