The unofficial numbers are in, and for the Corning City Council things remain the same on its City Council with two incumbent council members, and an uncontested mayor, city clerk and treasurer retaining their seats, as reported by the Tehama County Elections Office fourth unofficial Nov. 5 general election results. Incumbents Chuy Valerio and Shelly Hargens keep positions, while Brooke Smith fell short for her bid at the Council with 27 percent of the votes, compared to Valerio's 37.73 and Hargen's 35.27 percent. Red Bluff's City Council will retain incumbents, Mark Clement and J.R. Gonzales, and uncontested candidates Cassidy Derego as City Clerk and Donna Gordy as Treasurer. Candidates Hurschel Himes and Karen Hammers will be on the City of Tehama City Council, with Carolyn Steffan as City Clerk. In Orland the three top votes for City Council went to Brandon Smith at 653 votes, then Terrie Barr at 651 votes and third is JC Tolle with 614 votes, as per the Glenn County Elections office's fourth unofficial results posted Nov. 7. Willows also had three City Council seats on its ballot and with only three candidates for voters to chose from it was a slam dunk for Gary L. Hansen, 736 votes, Evan Hutson 927 votes and Matt Busby 560 votes, to bring home the win. However, Willows also had on its ballot a City Council-Par/Unexpired term race. It appears Lorri Pride with 924 votes took home the prize against candidate David B. Vodden's 528 votes. SCHOOL BOARDS Orland Unified School District Governing Board had three openings on its board, which apparently will be filled by Dustin Coughlin, 2,093, Becky L. Brummet, 1,347, and Coreen De Leon, 1,235. Nate Monck won the race for OUSD Governing Board member par/unexpired term with nearly double the votes, 2,048, against his opponent, Sarah Morse's 1,170 votes. Capay Joint Union Elementary School District Board will see Daniel Turnbull and Maddie Coleman on its board, and Stony Creek Joint Unified School District will welcome Diana Corkill to its board, along with Delana Martin and Krystal Craven serving in par/unexpired positions. Jose Hansen won his bid for a seat as a member of Glenn County Board of Education Board with 738 votes against 547 votes gained by his opponent Jesus Palomino. In Tehama County, joining the Kirkwood School District Board wi.. be Kaity Lamb, with 35.59 percent of the votes, and Ryan Lamson, with 27.12 percent. With 1,024 votes, Anthony "Tony" Arendt won the single spot open of the Glenn County Board of Supervisors over his opponent, Thomas Arnold's 812 votes. BALLOT MEASURES The City of Willows' bid for the passage of Measure I, a local transactions and use tax measure, was met with voter approval at 960 votes over 641 no votes, so the sales tax in Willows will increase by 1.5 cents on the dollar, or to 9 percent. Measure J on Orland's ballots, the ambulance, streets, parks, recreation and library services tax measure, also passed with 1,257 votes with 590 opposed, so Orland's sales tax rate will increase by 1⁄2 cent on the dollar to 8.5 percent. Corning Union Elementary School District's Measure J, to sell $13.7 million in bonds to improve the quality of education at Corning elementary and middle schools, passed voter approval with 57.67 percent of the votes. Lassen View Elementary's Measure K to sell $3.5 million in bonds for facility and educational improvements passed, however, Red Buff Joint Union High School's Measure L failed to make the cut. Red Bluff Street Repair and Safety Measure R passed with 65.38 percent of voter approval, raising the sales tax rate there from the base 7.5 percent to 8.25 percent. Of three measures to change the offices of Treasurer and City Clerk from elected to appointed in the City of Tehama, Corning and Red Bluff, the only voters to pass their measure was in the City of Tehama, with both Red Bluff and Corning falling short. ON THE DISTRICT/STATE LEVEL Glenn County overwhelmingly voted to put candidate Donald J. Trump in the Whitehouse as did Tehama County voters. Pretty much, both counties were consistent in following the republican ticket voting predominantly for U.S. Senate candidate Steve Garvey (R), who lost on the state level to incumbent Adam Schiff (D); incumbent U.S. Representative 1st District Doug LaMalfa retained his seat both for Glenn and Tehama voters but also on the district level. Candidates for State Senator 1st District were Megan Dahle and David Fennell, both republicans, with Dahle winning on the local and district level. Incumbent State Assemblyman 3rd District James Gallagher, (R), retained his seat with garnishing more than triple the votes of his challenger, Aaron Draper (D).
