Elmhurst Eatery Had Another Problem On Halloween Along with a burst pipe, the restaurant's liquor license had lapsed. The manager explained the situation.ELMHURST, IL – The downtown Elmhurst restaurant that recently closed because of a burst pipe had another issue – an expired liquor license.
State records show the license for 100 South Chop House, 100 S. York St., expired on Halloween. It got a new one eight days later.
In an interview Wednesday, manager Dominic Ranieri told Patch that renewing the liquor license "totally slipped my mind."
On Halloween, he said, a pipe burst in the basement, causing a lot of damage.
"It's an older building. I had to fix a lot of things," Ranieri said.
On the night of Nov. 5, which was Election Day, the DuPage County Health Department approved the restaurant for reopening after repairs were completed, he said.
Ranieri said the restaurant was closed for eight days.
A day after the county's approval, Ranieri announced on Facebook that the pipe had burst and that the restaurant had received approval to reopen.
"Join us tonight for 1/2 Priced Bottles Of Wine, and thank you all for your continued support!!," he said in the post.
The state gave the restaurant authority to sell liquor two days later.
A year ago, the restaurant was cited on a charge of violating the local liquor law . Elmhurst police said the restaurant had many people, some with drinks in their hands, a half hour past the city's mandated bar closing time. It was early Thanksgiving morning.
Ranieri offered $200 gift cards to the two responding police officers, the report said.
