Elon Musk announces final winner of $1 million giveaway

(CNN) - Elon Musk's pro-Trump Super PAC awarded its final $1 million prize to a registered voter in Michigan.

It brings an end to the daily sweepstakes, which attracted both federal and state-level legal scrutiny.

The political group, called America PAC, announced its final winner Tuesday, one day after a Pennsylvania judge declined to shut down the sweepstakes.

The Philadelphia District Attorney had filed a civil lawsuit seeking to halt to the sweepstakes, alleging it violated state gaming laws.

The super PAC established a right-wing petition that registered voters could sign to become eligible for the sweepstakes.

The pro-Trump group awarded $18 million to 18 registered voters in battleground states.

The justice department had warned the program might violate federal vote-buying laws.

A lawyer for America PAC said the winners were not chosen randomly and were hand-selected based on their personal stories. They also signed a contract to be a spokesperson for the organization.
