(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Pueblo's City Council passed an emergency ordinance on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to transfer $200,000 from the City's budget to help with the Pueblo Rescue Mission's upkeep.

At the beginning of October, the City and Rescue Mission came to an agreement that the shelter's buildings would be signed over to the City so it could take the homeless shelter in a "new direction."

The agreement came after an investigation in September revealed an employee of the Rescue Mission was allegedly stealing funds from people staying at the shelter, among other issues.

Pueblo Mayor Heather Graham said the City plans to find a new executive director or put together a request for a third-party agency to take over the Mission's role as the City's sole homeless shelter provider.

Mayor Graham said the anticipated timeline for new leadership will be around January.
