Empty bowl project benefits food pantry

The Misericordia University Empty Bowls project committee recently presented a check for $2,760.25 to the Back Mountain Food Pantry. The check represents one-quarter of the proceeds of a collaborative fundraising project involving the Back Mountain campus and Wilkes University, Luzerne County Community College and King’s College. Simultaneous events were held at the four campuses on Oct. 28, where participants, for a donation of $15, received a hand-thrown ceramic bowl filled with soup, bread and a drink. Proceeds from the event were divided four ways and each school selected a community resource that addresses hunger needs in the community as the recipient of its donation.
