(WJET/WFXP/ YourErie.com ) — National Coffee Day was celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 29. The beverage that's enjoyed worldwide and has become a breakfast staple for many was honored throughout the day. Erie's own Ember+Forge said the day saw a steady stream of customers, like any other Sunday.

Rie Witherow, a barista at the local coffee shop, said the business celebrates coffee every day of the year. She calls coffee a "societal equator." "Your economic background doesn't matter, your class background. It's something we all enjoy and it really is a communal table. So it doesn't matter what time of day, who you are, where you're from," Witherow said. "It's warm, it's comforting, it tastes like home. So why not celebrate it?" Ember+Forge is downtown at 401 state street.
