49ers get some bad news about star George Kittle

LATEST Nov. 17, 11:50 a.m. The 49ers officially made George Kittle inactive for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. The tight end will miss his second game of the 2024 season because of a hamstring injury. Kittle was spotted on the field by reporters around 100 minutes before kickoff, but Kittle was not going through pregame warmups and was wearing sneakers as his teammates wore cleats and stretched.

Nov. 17, 7:45 a.m. The injury-filled San Francisco 49ers season seems likely to continue on Sunday, this time with star tight end George Kittle set to miss Sunday's game. According to multiple NFL insiders, a hamstring injury that flared up this week seems likely to keep Kittle on the sideline. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on the " NFL Gameday " morning show that Kittle is facing an "uphill battle" to play against the Seattle Seahawks.

ESPN's Adam Schefter posted on X late Saturday night that Kittle is "unlikely to play." Schefter noted the 49ers aren't going to rule him out until after Kittle tests his hamstring pregame, but said the team is "not optimistic" that the tight end will be available.

If Kittle is inactive on Sunday, it'll be the second game he's missed this season with a hamstring injury. He also missed the NFC West divisional matchup against the Rams in Week 3. It'd be a major loss for the 49ers offense, as Kittle leads the 49ers in every major receiving category : targets (53), receptions (43), receiving yards (560) and touchdowns (7) — with two of those touchdowns coming in the Week 6 win over the Seahawks in Seattle. His absence would be especially impactful for Brock Purdy, who has only thrown 5 touchdown passes to any other Niner this year.

There's at least a little good injury news for the 49ers this week. Schefter noted in a follow-up post that the 49ers are "more hopeful and optimistic" about star left tackle Trent Williams playing on Sunday. Williams hasn't practiced all week because of an ankle injury, but believes he can play, according to Schefter.

The 49ers and Seahawks will kick off their pivotal NFC West matchup in Santa Clara at 1:05 p.m. on Fox .
