49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk Under Fire for Late-Game Actions in Loss to Rams
Brandon Aiyuk got into it with the Los Angeles Rams sidelined in the closing seconds of the San Francisco 49ers' 27-24 loss on Sunday.
The Rams mounted a fourth-quarter comeback against the 49ers, sealing the victory with a 37-yard field goal with just 2 seconds remaining. The 49ers had led for nearly the entire afternoon, leading to some frustration.
San Francisco tried to muster some magic on the kickoff but came up short. After the play, Aiyuk exchanged some shoves with the Rams sideline. A Rams staff member eventually pulled him away before things got ugly.
"If you're Brandon Aiyuk, just step away," Fox play-by-play man Adam Amin said during the scuffle. "It's a tough situation."
Fans also weighed in on Aiyuk's actions.
"Brandon Aiyuk has NO room to get heated with the Rams as soon as the game ends. He hasn't done s*** since getting paid for his stupid offseason shenanigans," a fan said .
Aiyuk finished with five catches for 48 yards. He hasn't had more than 50 yards in a game or a touchdown through three games after signing a four-year extension worth $120 million. Aiyuk missed all of the 49ers' offseason workouts and the preseason, holding out for a new contract.
"I wonder if 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is starting to understand the importance of participating in the team's off-season training program... " one fan said .
He has been outshined by Jauan Jennings, who had 11 grabs for 175 yards and three touchdowns against the Rams.
"Brandon Aiyuk never has had a game as good as the one Jauan Jennings had today," another fan said . "Aiyuk should give his contract to him."
The 49ers were missing a handful of their key playmakers, including tight end George Kittle, running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Aiyuk and the 49ers can get on track next week against the 1-2 New England Patriots.
