Eureka recognize 2 for their life-saving actions

EUREKA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Eureka City Council has recognized two for their life-saving efforts during its meeting on Monday.

According to Eureka City Services Coordinator Melissa Brown, both Assistant Eureka Police Chief Kim Jones and Ted Pierce were presented with a proclamation for heroic actions by Mayor Eric Lind.

They were recognized for their efforts in providing emergency aid to Eureka resident Jon Knapp

On Sept. 10 at approximately 5:20 p.m. Jones was called to Knapp's residence. Knapp was talking to Pierce, while he was working on his driveway when Knapp had a medical emergency and stopped breathing.

Pierce started CPR, and Jones took over when she arrived on the scene and continued until paramedics arrived. Jones said she was humbled by the award.

"This was something I was not expecting, when I was told about the award on Monday I was very shocked, very humbled," Jones said.

Knapp and his family were in attendance at the council meeting along with many community members to thank Pierce and Jones.

During the proclamation, the Paramedic and Training Coordinator for Eureka-Goodfield Fire District, Scott Rossman also spoke about the importance of CPR training and the resources available in the city.
