Evacuations recommended for some amid flooding in Pacific, Missouri

PACIFIC, Mo. – Officials are recommending evacuations for some residents in Pacific, Missouri due to flooding concerns from rising river levels.

The Pacific Police Department addressed residents and businesses with a memo on Tuesday, following several inches of rain over several days in the area, prompting concerns over Meramec River levels.

The National Weather Service is predicting the Meramec River will crest around 28 feet by Friday afternoon.

"At this level, most of the south side of town will be flooded and we recommend volunteer evacuations," said the Pacific Police Department.

The Pacific Police Department says it will open up an Emergency Operation Center on Wednesday and also have various sandbagging resources available to people in needed.

Authorities say utilities will be shut off once flood waters surface the area. "Please be prepared if you plan to stay."
