EVERETT, Pa. (WTAJ) — An Everett couple was jailed over the weekend after both shared different stories about a physical altercation while driving with their 1-year-old child, nearly crashing the car.

Daniel Lee Barton, 45, and Annabele Lee Vanburen, 35, were arrested over the weekend and charged with terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and child endangerment. Vanburen was also later charged with aggravated assault after allegedly smacking a trooper across the face.

State police were called Saturday night, Nov. 2, to a home on Arnold Drive in East Providence Township for a report of a domestic altercation. Upon arrival, Vanburen told state police an argument took place in the car while Barton was driving and their 1-year-old was in the backseat. According to her account, Barton became physical, including grabbing her arm and biting her. Troopers noted in the criminal complaint that they saw what appeared to be a bruised bite mark on her arm and a bruised, swollen mark behind her ear.

Vanburen also claimed that Barton tried to scare her by intentionally driving up an embankment and almost rolling the car, charges read. Vanburen then said her head still hurt and the child seemed lethargic, prompting troopers to get her to UPMC.

According to the affidavit, Barton later returned home that night and told troopers that Vanburen was the one who got physical with him. He claimed she threatened to kill him while he was driving and began to hit him and pull his hair. He also told investigators she would pull the steering wheel and nearly caused them to drive up an embankment and crash. Troopers noted he had a scratch under his eye.

Barton also claimed that Vanburen opened the door and hung out of the car so she could kick him before he came to a stop. When he tried to get their toddler from the backseat, he claimed she would kick and punch him overtop of the child. According to the complaint, Barton told troopers Vanburen got out of the vehicle with the child and he left.

After a few hours, troopers said they went to UPMC to place Vanburen in custody. According to charges, she became loud and resisted being cuffed. Two UPMC nurses came in to assist when Vanburen allegedly smacked the trooper across the face, leading to new aggravated assault charges.

Vanburen and Barton were arraigned overnight into Sunday morning and placed in Bedford County Prison.
