Everlane’s Fall Jackets Are in My Constant Rotation This Year

Layering is key to surviving the changing Midwestern fall weather. Here in Chicago, for example, the temperatures are mostly in the 40s in the mornings, but get up to the 70s in the afternoon and back down again once the sun goes down. As every Midwesterner knows, you need several jackets that are warm enough for your morning commute but lightweight enough to keep you sweat-free by 5 o'clock. I own dozens of jackets and coats, but this year, my favorites all come from Everlane. Everlane is home to timeless fashion staples that are sophisticated enough to wear through several trend cycles. It's my favorite place to shop for high-quality basics because the pieces fit perfectly with a classic capsule wardrobe, but they usually feature unique details I can't find anywhere else. And this year, I've been especially impressed with the amount of fall jackets I've wanted to add to my wardrobe ASAP. Editor-Loved Everlane Fall Jackets The Barn Jacket , $178 The Ranch Jacket , $178 The Midi Quilted Liner , $178 I have welcomed three jackets into my closet this year and haven't reached for anything else since. The Barn jacket is my go-to for quick trips to the farmer's market and morning commutes when the weather is at its most temperamental, while the Ranch jacket is a staple for night's out to concerts or drinks with friends. Read on to learn more about why these jackets have basically replaced every other style in my closet this fall. The Barn Jacket I received the barn jacket as a sample last spring, and it's the most seasonally versatile jacket I own thanks to its roomy fit and medium length. The classic canvas-like jacket features two long front pockets, a corduroy collar, and darling brown buttons. I especially love the relaxed fit that pairs well with T-shirts and light sweaters, and the curved seams at the shoulders which give it a more structured look. I have the jacket in Cornstalk, which is perfect to wear with jeans, trousers, and midi skirts. The Ranch Jacket I have at least five other denim jackets, but I fell in love with this Ranch jacket the second I saw it. It's the perfect oversized length without being too baggy in the shoulders. I love the dark blue wash, but it was the brown corduroy collar that sold it for me. And the deep front pockets and seams that mimic elbow patches and shoulder pads? Chef's kiss. I love wearing it with a similar wash jean for a denim-on-denim moment (risky, I know), but it's also great when paired with straight-leg trousers or even joggers. The Midi Quilted Liner As a Midwesterner, it's so hard to find jackets that are warmer than denim that aren't a bulky puffer. This quilted jacket is the best solution I've found because it keeps me toasty on colder days, but I won't overheat when the sun comes out. Its boxy fit is great to throw over a sweater, and it's thin enough to wear under a parka in the winter. The simple silhouette is ideal for quick trips to the grocery store, but I can easily dress it up with a turtleneck and skirt. While I highly recommend the jackets mentioned above, I'd be remiss if I didn't include the jackets that are currently in my cart. Shop the fall jackets I can't wait to wear below.
