Ex-NFL referee blasts officials for call in Steelers' win over Commanders: ‘That was not a fumble’

Former NFL referee Gene Steratore disagreed with the call of Jaylen Warren's fumble against the Washington Commanders. The officials let play ride out, as Warren was pushed from behind by his teammates and Commanders defenders without gaining ground.

All in all, Warren stalled at the one-yard line for multiple seconds, which could have warranted a whistle to stop forward progress.

However, the referrers instead let the play continue, and Warren fumbled the ball as he was heading to the ground. That took away potential points from the Pittsburgh Steelers .

Steratore, CBS' rules analyst, called out the officials on the broadcast, saying that the play was not a fumble but should have been blown dead.

"That was not a fumble by Warren. Play should have been whistled dead. His forward progress was stopped," Steratore said on the broadcast.

Warren carried the ball down the field after Najee Harris sustained a minor injury. It had trickled some rain, and moisture was in the air, so the ball was slicker than usual, which could have led to the Warren fumble.

Either way, the Steelers were able to pick Warren up and find a touchdown on the next drive, closing out the game to a 28-27 win.
