Misericordia stars on PAC honor roll
Two College Misericordia basketball standouts have been named to the Player
of the Week honor roll in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
Willie Chandler, of Scranton, was named the PAC men’s basketball player of
the week, and Leslie Livingstone, a Wyoming Valley West graduate, was selected
to the PAC women’s basketball Player of the Week honor roll.
Chandler was named player of the week for the second consecutive week after
averaging 36 points and six rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. He added
two steals and 1.5 assists a game.
Livingstone, a freshman, averaged 10 points and six rebounds in a 2-0 week
for the women’s team. She added 8.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
Misericordia players among PAC stat leaders
Eight College Misericordia basketball players are ranked among the
statistical leaders in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
Willie Chandler leads the league in scoring with 29.2 points per game and
Mark Sakson is seventh in scoring, at 16.2. Chandler is also 10th in
rebounding, at 6.0; and Sakson is third in assists, at 3.6.
Jason Perry is sixth in scoring at 15.6 ppg and fifth in rebounding with
Neil Burdis leads the PAC in assists with 8.4 a game, and Jason Mailliard
is ninth, at 2.6.
For the Lady Cougars, Mary Rowlands, of Bishop O’Reilly, is fifth in
scoring with 17.6 ppg and seventh in rebounding, at 8.0. Leslie Livingstone,
of Wyoming Valley West, is third in assists with 5.8 per game, while Kristy
Boyd, of Central, is fifth in assists, at 5.0.
Stambaugh scores 15 for LJC
Bishop O’Reilly product Tom Stambaugh scored 15 points for Lackawanna
Junior College on Saturday night as the Falcons (1-1) dropped a 105-81
decision to nationally ranked Allegany College in Cumberland, Md.
Stambaugh, a sophomore, also had six rebounds, two steals, three assists
and two blocked shots. After two games, he is LJC’s third-leading scorer
(18.0) and second-leading rebounder (7.0).
Former GAR High School star Aubry Keatts had four points, one assist and
one steal in his debut with the Falcons. He missed the season’s opener because
of an injury.
Martial Arts
Saunders wins three trophies in tournament
Seth Saunders, 8, ranked as a green belt, recentlyt captured first-place
trophies in weapons, kata and sparring at the 11th annual Pennsylvania Open
Martial Arts Championships in State College.
Saunders won first in the children’s divisions of the rank purple and under
for the boys and girls, and 12 and under for kata and weapons. For the
sparring, he was moved up to the purple belt division where he won first and
earned himself a six-foot trophy.
Saunders is a student under the direction of Master Joe Huntzinger at
Huntzinger’s Karate School in Wilkes-Barre. He is a second-grader at Fairview
Elementary School in Mountaintop and is the son of Danny and Carol Saunders.
