NORFOLK, Neb. (WOWT) - More information was released Tuesday regarding the investigation into a plane crash in northeast Nebraska last month. The Federal Aviation Administration released its preliminary report on the crash that took the life of pilot Philip K. Widner of Bedford, Texas, on Oct. 7 at Norfolk Regional Airport. According to the FAA, Widner's plane arrived in Norfolk just after 7 p.m. that evening to take on additional cargo before continuing on to Omaha. Airport surveillance camera shows the plane leaving the runway, climb into the air, bank left, descend, and crash less than 700 yards from the airport. The FAA's report said the damage from the fire after the crash was so severe that cockpit instruments did not have any useful readings. Still, the remnants of the aircraft were kept for further examination.
