Fairport boys soccer wins first state title in overtime

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. (WROC) — The Fairport boys soccer team capped off their season to remember with a storybook finish on Sunday, defeating Shaker 2-1 in overtime in the Class AAA state title game.

Charlie Ippolito sent in a header on a cross from Ryan Mathis for the golden goal three minutes into double overtime. The victory completed an unbeaten season for the Red Raiders and gave Fairport their first boys soccer state title in program history.

Mathis tallied his team's first goal of the game, scoring with less than five minutes remaining in the first half to tie the game 1-1.

Fairport advanced to the state finals by defeating Walt Whitman (XI) on Saturday, advancing in penalty kicks. The Red Raiders won the shootout 4-3 after the game was tied 1-1.

Fairport ends the season with a 15-0-4 record, the only undefeated season in program history.
