Fall River Man Arrested in Connection With Shootings
FALL RIVER ( WBSM ) — A Fall River man was arrested on multiple firearm and other charges Thursday as part of the investigation into a pair of incidents of shots fired.
According to Fall River Interim Police Chief Kelly Furtado, members of the Patrol Bureau's B Division responded to the 700 block of North Main Street at about 5:30 p.m. on November 7 after multiple reports of gunshots in the area of 715 North Main Street.
Furtado said those reports were followed by additional calls regarding active gunshots heard in the area of Hood Street and Robeson Street.
Officers investigated both locations and additional information came in regarding a possible suspect vehicle, along with a male suspect observed in possession of a firearm, Furtado said.
Then, as officers were responding to the second shooting scene, another caller reported the suspect was observed driving a green Jeep Liberty that had crashed into a parked vehicle at the intersection of Hood and Robeson. Officers arrived and were directed by a witness to the suspect, later identified as Darrell Lane-Sanders, 32, of Fall River.
Furtado said the officers saw Lane-Sanders walking near the green Jeep Liberty, which they saw had multiple gunshot holes to the driver's side. They detained Lane-Sanders and found him allegedly in possession of a 17-round firearm magazine and an ice pick.
Another witness reported seeing Lane-Sanders walking around Hood Street, allegedly with a firearm in his hand, and then showed the investigators where he had dropped the gun. It was located and identified as a Glock 9mm equipped with a 32-round extended magazine containing 9mm ammunition, with a round loaded in the chamber.
Three spent shell casings were located on North Main Street and a bullet hit a nearby residence. Seven spent shell casings were located at the intersection of Hood and Robeson.
Sanders was arrested and charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device, carrying of a loaded firearm without a license to carry, carrying a firearm without an LTC, possession of ammunition, two counts of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, resisting arrest, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to use care when stopping and vandalism.
