Falzone ‘super excited’ to join Hokies as first member of 2026 recruiting class

Peyton Falzone made sure to make one more unofficial visit to Virginia Tech before the recruiting dead period began in late June. It was important for the quarterback from Nazareth (Pa.) High School to see the campus and meet with the Hokies coaching staff again.

The June 21 visit all but assured the rising junior where he wanted to play college football.

Falzone became the Hokies' first verbal commitment in the 2026 recruiting class when he announced his decision early Saturday evening in a social media post.

Tech was one of three Power Four conference programs to offer the 6-foot-5, 200-pound quarterback. He also received offers from Penn State and Syracuse.

"I just feel really comfortable with the coaching staff. I love everything they're about and the culture that they're building," Falzone said Saturday evening in a phone interview. "Coach [Brent] Pry is doing a great job down there and Coach [Tyler] Bowen also leading the offense. I'm just super excited for everything that they've got going on and I just want to be a part of that culture."

Falzone's June 21 trip to Blacksburg came three days before the recruiting dead period began and was the latest in a "few visits" to campus, according to the quarterback. He participated in Tech's first summer camp on June 2 and was extended a scholarship offer two days later.

Penn State offered Falzone less than a week after Tech's offer. Syracuse offered Falzone one day after he made his latest unofficial visit to Tech.

"Obviously they're both fantastic schools, but I just believe in everything Coach Pry's about," Falzone said of what put Tech ahead of the other programs. "He's the type of guy I want to play for, as well as Bowen. Everything they're doing right now is just everything I'm looking for as a coaching staff. I feel like football is a big deal there in Blacksburg and I'm excited to be a part of that community."

Falzone is currently not rated as a prospect by the four major recruiting services (247Sports, On3, Rivals and ESPN) despite enjoying a stellar sophomore season at Nazareth.

He led the Blue Eagles to a 12-2 record and a PIAA District 11 Class 6A title as a sophomore. He threw for 2,528 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions, and he added 440 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

"I pride myself in being a dual-threat guy. I will sit back there and make throws, but at the same time if they're going to leave me lanes to run, I'm going to run and take what I can get," Falzone said. "I'm just going to dink and dunk down the field, and if the defense is going to give you a gift, you're going to take the gift. I'm not going to force the ball. That's why I feel like we were able to have as much success as we were this past year. Just not forcing balls into tight windows and just being able to take what we can get."

Falzone's running ability was brought up during the recruiting process. He said Bowen was impressed with how well he could run in his 6-foot-5 frame.

"I pride myself on being able to run," Falzone said. "He's like, 'There's not many guys your size who can run.' That's part of my game. That's part of my game being a dual-threat quarterback. Being able to make moves with your legs and then also being able to throw the ball down the field."

Falzone's trips to Blacksburg also provided him opportunities to meet with current players and recruits, along with prospects in his class. Those interactions were equally as valuable to him as the ones with the coaching staff.

"I was able to talk to a few receivers and running backs when I was down there for an unofficial visit. I've also been in contact with some of the O-linemen," he said. "They're bringing in a certain type of kid who's smart-minded, but he also loves the game of football. That's just awesome. Those are teammates I want to be around."
