Famed horror makeup artist to visit Austin film event for mysterious double feature

While Austin, Texas, settles into spooky season, a notorious special effects makeup artist is planning their horrific takeover at the Paramount Theatre.

Famed "Day of the Dead" effects artist Greg Nicotero will join Austin filmmaker Robert Rodriguez at a mysterious double feature event on Monday, Oct. 28, as part of Panic at the Paramount.

The notable film series that kicked off on Oct. 15 features a jam-packed lineup of horror classics, thrillers and slashers, allowing Halloween fanatics to get their spooky fix. But the final event of the annual film series on Oct. 28 stands out — and for good reason.

The first screening of Panic at the Paramount's final day will be of Rodriguez's 1996 film, "From Dusk Till Dawn." Film lovers will be happy to hear that this screening is a touch different than the rest.

Not only will there be a live introduction and Q&A featuring Rodriguez and Nicotero, who served as the special effects makeup artist for the film, but the Paramount will screen Rogriguez's personal 35 mm print of "From Dusk Till Dawn."

The horror-filled surprises will continue after the screening, as Rodriguez has been tapped to select a mystery second film. While attendees won't know what the Austin-based filmmaker will choose until the night of the screening, it's sure to be a terrifying yet entertaining pick that highlights the importance of special effects makeup in horror films.

Tickets for the double feature screening at the Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress Ave., Austin, on Oct. 28 are $17 and can be purchased here through Austin Theatre.
