BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — For the second year, luminary bags are being sold in Bristol in preparation for a memorial of two fallen officers.

Bristol Police Lt. Dustin DeMonte and Sgt. Alex Hamzy were killed in the line of duty on Oct. 12, 2022. Since their passing, Hamzy's cousin Gabby has been encouraging residents of Bristol to light their homes and business with blue luminary bags in their honor.

"The biggest reason I do it," Gabby told News 8, "is to keep Alex's memory alive and also to help the community feel like they're helping."

Gabby has been selling the bags out of the Hamzy Law Firm on Farmington Avenue, Bristol, since September 21st. The bags will go outside of the homes in Bristol on the evening of Saturday, October 12th.

The last two days to pick up a luminary bag are Sunday October 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and October 12th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with times on the 12th subject to change.
