MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department has been investigating a hit-and-run for over a month, with no new leads. "It's torturous," mother, Lisa Washington explained. "They say there are stages to a loss, but the stage is not in the exact order for me. They jump around, I have anger then I have sadness and then I have acceptance, then it comes back around again and again." On Oct 16. Bryan Jackson was walking home from work when just after 6:30 p.m. a car swerved and hit Jackson, leaving him in a ditch. Jackson remained in the ditch for at least three hours until another person saw him. The good Samaritan started to perform CPR, called 911 and called Jackson's mom. "I thought it was a prank," Washington said. Jackson fought for his life for 10 days in the hospital. "They were rough," Sister, Courtney Jackson remembered. "He was doing better in the beginning; he was responding to certain things but then he just slowly declined, and it was just heartbreaking." Family tells News 5 that Jackson was an advocate in the community and a member of the Stop the Violence initiative to limit gun crimes in Mobile. His family hopes to carry out his legacy and push for Mobile to become a safer city. They say their first mission is to convince city leaders to install more sidewalks, making the city pedestrian-friendly. They are urging anyone with information to go to the Mobile Police Department.
