A Farmville man who broke into a Caroline County residence in late 2022 and robbed the resident at gunpoint was ordered Thursday to serve 10 years in prison.

Dashawn Keon Hunter, 27, pleaded guilty in Caroline Circuit Court to robbery, armed burglary, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and possessing a firearm as a felon. As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to a total of 48 years with 38 years suspended.

According to police reports and the evidence presented by Commonwealth's Attorney Ben Heidt, two masked men broke into a home on Kidds Fork Road in the Sparta area on Nov. 30, 2022. They assaulted the 69-year-old victim and held him at gunpoint before leaving with guns, money and collector coins. The victim was not seriously injured.

Daryl Lee Beasley, 52, of Bowling Green, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy for his role in setting up the incident and is scheduled to be sentenced next week. But Heidt said Beasley is not one of the masked men who directly participated in the robbery. A Henrico man was initially charged with the same offenses as Hunter, but those charges were later dropped due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

An investigation headed by Caroline Lt. B.J. Sadler led to the arrests. A gun and coins belonging to the victim were recovered during searches of homes in Chesterfield and Prince Edward counties.
