LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A Woodville 10-year-old is facing a felony charge after his father turned him in Thursday for threatening to "shoot up" Wakulla High School, according to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office.

The 10-year-old is facing a charge of making a written or electronic threat to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, the sheriff's office said in a social media post on Facebook Friday.

The child's arrest comes after a school resource officer was alerted about a social media threat around 4 p.m. Wednesday by Wakulla High staff after the school day ended, according to WCSO.

The sheriff's office said a high school student reported to Wakulla High that he had participated in a Snapchat conversation with an unidentified person who stated "Yes I'm finna shoot up your school it's yalls last day."

The school resource officer then initiated a criminal investigation.

Law enforcement spent that day and early Thursday morning investigating to identify the source and location of the threat, per WCSO's statement.

Early Thursday morning, a school resource officer and FDLE special agents made contact with the 10-year-old at his home in Leon County and interviewed him, the sheriff's office said.

WCSO then informed Wakulla County school officials that there was no imminent threat to Wakulla High or any other school, according to the sheriff's office, and that the 10-year-old would be charged.

The 10-year-old's father turned him in Thursday, per WCSO.

The news comes after a slew of arrests were made within the past two weeks in connection to local school threats .
