CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Tuesday is the last day to apply for federal assistance for anyone whose job was impacted by the Aug. 18 historic flooding .

Many homes and businesses were impacted throughout Route 69. To date, places are still struggling to rebuild and reopen.

If you lost your job or had your hours cut back after the flooding, you can get help from the federal government.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, requires disaster unemployment assistance applications to be filed by the end of the day.

Tuesday marked three months since people in Seymour, Oxford, and parts of other towns woke up to find their homes and businesses washed away or cut off.

While the state is offering assistance, Tuesday is the final day to apply for federal help for people whose jobs were specifically impacted.

To qualify, first, you have to apply for state unemployment benefits, then you can apply for federal disaster assistance.

Recovery centers in Oxford and Southbury were also set to close at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The centers have been open every day of the week.

"So, with the physical centers closing, you can't get that in-person aid for getting help from the federal government, but there are still ways the federal government can help you," said Janel Finley, a public affairs specialist for the Small Business Administration.

Businesses that didn't have any physical damage, but economical damage, can apply for the economical injury program through June 20.

"Now, any time after the deadly, they can still apply," Finley said. "We just ask for justification why you're applying late."
