Festival of Books provides diverse selection to community

N.Nguyen2 hr ago

EBENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Festival of Books in the Alleghenies showed off local authors' work to their community.

Nearly 60 different writers, ranging from rookies to New York Times bestsellers, set up tables and sold their work to the residents of Ebensburg. Signings and public readings were available to the public.

A big goal for the committee was to promote diversity in the community through works and a scholarship to bring along an LGBTQ+ writer to the festival.

"We've been very intentional on that," Hilary Hauck, author and chairman of the Festival of Books committee said. "There are some great voices in our region and everybody needs to be heard."

The opportunity to meet fans is an endearing moment for writers. the festival provides that to these authors.

"Authors spend a lot of time alone writing, by hand or their laptops," Hauck added. "To be out and actually talking to people, and the absolute best thing is when somebody comes up and said, 'Hey, I bought your book last year and I really loved it."
